One to One Mentoring

Big Brothers Mentoring

The Big Brothers mentoring program provides boys and young men with a role model to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.

The Big Brothers mentoring program usually requires two regularly scheduled outings a month of a few hours each and a minimum of a one year commitment.

Big Sisters Mentoring

The Big Sisters mentoring program provides girls and young women with a role model to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.

The Big Sisters mentoring program usually requires two regularly scheduled outings a month of several hours each and a minimum of a one year commitment.

In-School Mentoring

The In-School mentoring program provides youth with a role model and a friend to talk to and share the experiences of growing up within school grounds. For one hour a week, mentors meet with their mentee and engage in activities such as board games, crafts or just hang out on school grounds. There are two types of ISM matches based on the age of the mentor: ISM Teen and ISM Adult.

The In-School mentoring program requires a weekly visit of one hour for the duration of the school year. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during other school holidays.

Virtual Mentoring

The brand new Virtual mentoring program provides youth with a role model and a friend to talk to through virtual means. Through video calls, you may support your mentee in their areas of need, while also being able to access unique, online resources.

The Virtual mentoring program requires a weekly visit of 45 minutes for the duration agreed upon with the agency.

Group Programs

Shared Journey

Shared Journey is a pilot project created in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and is aimed at creating agency within the youth and mentors life to action reconciliation. The structure of the program is a mentor-lead, ten-week program that incorporates fun, educational games & activities designed to stimulate self-reflection and group discussion on the theme of reconciliation and history of Indigenous people. Each session is 1.5 hours in length and is held after school or during lunch break, primarily within school facilities.

Kids ‘N Kops

A mini police academy for children ages 9 to 13. The purpose of the program is to foster trust and respect between “at risk” youth and law enforcement officers. The participating RCMP officers along with agency volunteers and staff, provide positive role models to instill confidence and self-esteem for the children.

Engaging Young Leaders

Engaging Young Leaders was developed by STOPS to Violence (STOPS), Yorkton Tribal Council (YTC) and Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Youth ages 15-21 are encouraged to participate to develop skills and abilities necessary to be a Mentor.

This program is held once a month in a north and south location, on and off reserve.  Participants meet for a learning day focused on self-development activities.

Club Connect

Club Connect is an inclusive after school program ran at Esterhazy High School. This twenty-week program connects youth to the community through confidence building, active living, and balanced eating. The 2021-2022 session is open to grades 6 through 9 and runs Wednesday’s from 3:30 to 5:00 PM starting on December 8, 2021-May 10, 2022.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Community Connections is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yorkton and Area’s group mentoring day camp that incorporates sports and recreation, arts, culture, and life skill coaching in a fun summer program for kids ages 6-12. The program usually runs in two sessions over the summer: July and August.
